Selected engagement

Rail franchise assurance at scale

Risk and systems safety assurance across around 220 projects for an Accredited Rail Transport Operator (ARTO): risk plans, registers and workshops spanning safety, financial, environmental and technical risk, aligned to the operator's assurance framework, with SFAIRP reports and safety cases for the complex ones. The work gave the ARTO the confidence to proceed and support projects at key milestones, delivered real risk reduction through better risk tools, and helped the operator maintain its Accreditation.

Selected engagement

High-profile project and change-management engagements

Risk work on complex, high-consequence rail interfaces, including TBM underbores beneath a live corridor. On the underbores, our assessment flagged very early that the designed system of work sat outside the ARTO's risk tolerance and needed significant rework. Fortunately, we were engaged early, and the TBM design could mature around the corrected risk picture: it was not allowed to proceed unsafely, and catching it in time meant the additional controls could be built in without a painful cost hit, eventually meeting SFAIRP.

Selected engagement

High-voltage standard waiver over a live rail corridor

A 66 kV aerial conductor proposed to cross an operating rail corridor at a non-standard angle. We facilitated the waiver risk assessment, covering induced voltage, conductor and mechanical failure, and safe-approach-distance encroachment, with the right SMEs in the room, and separated the waiverable requirements from the regulatory floor that cannot be waived. We reached consensus on the mitigations the non-standard arrangement needed, and the ARTO accepted it.

The experience we bring

Senior background our people bring to Brisk, from roles before the firm. Shown here as experience, not as Brisk engagements.

Experience

Australia's largest transport PPP

Designed and stood up a full risk and contingency framework across the central package of Australia's largest transport Public-Private-Partnership (PPP): risk owned across 17 project managers, contingency sized with Monte Carlo and QCRA under a pain-share / gain-share model, and full credits achieved on the Infrastructure Sustainability Council's IS v2.1 (SPR-1) through a custom risk-integration process.

Experience

Metropolitan water authority

A five-year enterprise risk, health and safety strategy for a metropolitan water authority: policies, registers, standards and reporting aligned to ISO 31000 and ISO 45001, plus the change work to make it stick (2016–2020).
